Helping Mom (and You) Retrieve Browser History the Easy Way

myTech.Today specializes in making technology approachable for everyone in Barrington, IL and beyond.
We know how frustrating it can be when a beloved recipe disappears into the digital ether.
Whether your 80-year-old mom saved her best chicken soup recipe or a pie crust secret on her phone browser,
we're here to help her bring it back.
As we like to say: "Home is where the heart is, and increasingly where the browser cookies are."

This step-by-step guide walks you through eight different, simple methods
for retrieving recipes or browsing history. Each method is described in plain language,
with no confusing jargon. Think of this as a warm kitchen conversation, not a cold computer manual.
And if it feels overwhelming, remember—we're just a phone call away at
847-767-4914.

Method 1 — Chrome App History (Android & iPhone)

If Mom uses Google Chrome, her recipes might be waiting in the History list.

  1. Open the Chrome app (circle icon with red, yellow, green, and blue dot).
  2. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner.
  3. Select History.
  4. Look for recipe sites she visited. Tap to open.
  5. If she remembers a word like “lasagna,” type it in the search bar at the top.

Method 2 — Safari History (iPhone users)

For iPhone Safari users, it's just a few taps away.

  1. Open Safari (blue compass icon).
  2. Tap the book icon at the bottom.
  3. Tap the clock tab for history.
  4. Scroll to find the recipe and tap to open.

Method 3 — Google “My Activity” Website

Google quietly keeps track of searches and visited websites if signed in.

  1. Open the browser and type myactivity.google.com.
  2. Sign in with her Gmail and password.
  3. Look through her timeline or type words like “recipe” in the search box.
  4. Tap any link to reopen the recipe.

Method 4 — Bookmarks, Saved Pages, and Downloads

Sometimes Mom may have saved it without realizing it.

  • Bookmarks: In Chrome, tap menu → Bookmarks. In Safari, tap the book icon → Bookmarks.
  • Saved Pages: In Chrome, look under Downloads or Saved. In Safari, check the Reading List (glasses icon).
  • Files App: Open the Files app and scan for saved PDFs or recipes.

Method 5 — Recently Closed Tabs

Recipes might still be hiding in tabs that were recently closed.

  1. Open the Chrome or Safari app.
  2. Tap the tabs button (square icon or overlapping squares).
  3. Look for “Recently Closed” or scroll through open tabs.

Method 6 — Check Photos and Screenshots

Many folks tap “screenshot” instead of saving a link. Mom might have a photo copy!

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Check the Screenshots folder.
  3. Scroll for recipe pictures.

Method 7 — Email and Messages

Did she email or text herself a recipe? Many people do!

  1. Open the Mail app or Messages.
  2. Search for “recipe” in the search bar at the top.
  3. Open any matching messages to see if the recipe is there.

Method 8 — Google Account on the Web (Desktop or Laptop)

If Mom is near a desktop or laptop, sometimes the bigger screen helps.

  1. Open any computer browser and visit google.com.
  2. Log in with her Gmail address and password.
  3. Click the nine-dot menu (Google Apps) → My Activity.
  4. Browse or search for recipe history.
