Creating Strong, Unique Passwords

Most systems today require passwords that include:

• 8–16 characters (some sites allow up to 16)
• At least one number (0–9)
• Both uppercase and lowercase letters (A–Z, a–z)
• One punctuation mark (we recommend confining to !, @, #)

Why Unique Passwords?

Using a different password for each site prevents a single breach from exposing all of your accounts. Even if hackers obtain one set of credentials, they won’t be able to use it elsewhere.

Our Simple Phrase-Based Scheme

We recommend a “phrase” approach that’s consistent but customizable:

1. Two letters from the domain (e.g., Go for google.com)
2. Current year (2025)
3. Punctuation (!, @, or #)
4. Memorable keyword of 6+ characters

Example:

If you ever need to reset or update, simply change the punctuation to the next in sequence (e.g., switch from ! to @). Also able to change the Year to match the current date.
