In the latest blog post, Microsoft indicates that Windows 10 Update #1809 will change the default status for all USB devices from 'Best Performance' to 'Quick Removal'.

This means that for users who want to snatch a thumb drive from a computer without the arduous process of 'ejecting' the device can snatch away. However, users who require increased performance, from, say, secondary external hard drives which are rarely removed, can set Windows 10 back to the 'increased performance' setting.

After Update #1809, the process is complete and easy USB use will be a thing to stay.
